Kevin Walz

RALPH PUCCI Los Angeles presents the Numino Collection, a new body of work by Kevin Walz comprising upholstered seating and resin tables defined by the contrast of voluminous, weighty shapes that appear to float above the ground. This is the first exhibition of Walz in Los Angeles in over 10 years.

Developed over the past several years, the collection began as a personal exploration, stemming from Walz’s desire to create a new kind of comfort, one that is relaxed, warm, and elegant.

The upholstered seating collection (Numino Sofa, Love Seat, Grand Settee, Daybed, and Lounge Chair) was developed as a sympathetic curve, appearing deceptively simple but complex in construction. There are ten colour combinations in the collection, each balanced and painterly. The thick shapes feel both generous and classic, yet their low, hovering stance lends an unexpected weightlessness.

The accompanying resin tables mirror the same attention to colour and fluid form. Designed to feel like they’re floating in air, the Numino Coffee Tables, Consoles and Side tables hover and their stainless-steel bases have been executed with such refined welding they appear poured in place. The tabletop includes a subtle lip, forming a tray-like edge that safely holds objects and echoes the welcoming, supportive gestures found throughout the collection.

Rather than imposing large tables into a space, the Numino Tables are deliberately slightly smaller than expected, while the seating appears slightly oversized. This contrast allows for closer interaction, with curved forms making the tables easier to reach, sitting slightly in front or beside you.
Color relationships are central to both the resin and upholstered seating works. Rather than relying on direct matches, the collection favors related tones; a palette of colors that converse with each other and are enhanced by the materials they are made from. A resin wall light completes the ensemble, more neutral in tone to better project light, and imagined in three colours.

Kevin Walz says, “I believe in things having meaning, and things having a long life. I wanted to create a new kind of comfort that’s relaxed and elegant and warm—where the furniture feels like it’s taking care of you.”

Ilkka Suppanen

Executed in PUCCI’s proprietary Plasterglass material, Suppanen’s inaugural collection, ‘Stereo Bloom’ follows a two-year collaboration with Ralph Pucci and the gallery’s in-house Master Sculptor, whose craftsmanship has transformed Suppanen’s drawings into physical reality. Bridging disciplines, the collaboration melds art, function, knowledge, and sculpting material into a meaningful collection that embodies the fusion of art and design.

The collection, which originally premiered in New York, is reimagined in bright colors. This is Ilkka’s first exhibition at Ralph Pucci Los Angeles.
