“Made in L.A.” brings together the works of Julie Ling, John Wigmore, Amy Dov, and Marjorie Salvaterra, each offering a unique perspective through their respective mediums of mural art, ceramics, lighting, and photography.
A celebration of Los Angeles-based artists, this exhibition highlights the diverse creative voices that make up the city’s thriving art scene. With deep ties to the region, each artist brings an intimate connection to the landscape, culture, and spirit of LA, reflecting its energy, resilience, and evolution. The opening celebration is Thursday, April 24th, 6-8pm.
Marking a significant addition to the gallery’s exterior, illustrator Julie Ling debuts “The Occulting Light,” a large-scale mural in four parts (pictured above). Ling, known for her whimsical yet deeply emotional artistic language, describes this work as a “love letter to Los Angeles,” forecasting a longer period of light for the city.
“The Occulting Light” refers to a guiding beacon, much like a lighthouse, where light outlasts darkness. Ling’s ever-present floral motifs act as symbols of resilience, whispering hope into the urban landscape. In her own words: “I am putting flowers on everything that hurts.”
