Los Angeles Made In LA Exhibition

RALPH PUCCI (los angeles) presents “Made in L.A.” an exhibition of California artists featuring Julie Ling, John Wigmore, Amy Dov, and Marjorie Salvaterra, which debuted on Thursday, April 24th at 1025 N. McCadden Place.

Made in L.A.” brings together the works of Julie Ling, John Wigmore, Amy Dov, and Marjorie Salvaterra, each offering a unique perspective through their respective mediums of mural art, ceramics, lighting, and photography.

A celebration of Los Angeles-based artists, this exhibition highlights the diverse creative voices that make up the city’s thriving art scene. With deep ties to the region, each artist brings an intimate connection to the landscape, culture, and spirit of LA, reflecting its energy, resilience, and evolution. The opening celebration is Thursday, April 24th, 6-8pm.

Marking a significant addition to the gallery’s exterior, illustrator Julie Ling debuts “The Occulting Light,” a large-scale mural in four parts (pictured above). Ling, known for her whimsical yet deeply emotional artistic language, describes this work as a “love letter to Los Angeles,” forecasting a longer period of light for the city.

“The Occulting Light” refers to a guiding beacon, much like a lighthouse, where light outlasts darkness. Ling’s ever-present floral motifs act as symbols of resilience, whispering hope into the urban landscape. In her own words: “I am putting flowers on everything that hurts.”

John Wigmore showcases his latest paper lighting works and ceramics, continuing his exploration of color and shape in the Chroma series and featuring new glazing techniques and finishes for his signature ceramic lamps, sconces, tables, and objects. Incorporating Japanese ink and delicate colored papers, Wigmore brings a vibrant extension to his atmospheric paper light sculptures. His ongoing development of ceramics includes custom glaze mixing and high-fire finishing, resulting in a brilliant new look for his pieces.

Amy Dov’s hand-built ceramic vessels and sculptures (pictured above) draw inspiration from the organic processes of erosion, decay, and renewal. Working with reduction-fired clay, oxides, and woven glaze applications, Dov evokes the raw beauty of bones, branches, and sand-worn stones. Her work is an invitation to observe the quiet transformation of the natural world, reflecting the poetry of imperfection and time’s imprint on all things. A Master Printer from the Tamarind Institute, Dov now creates from her Los Angeles studio, embracing the grounding, meditative nature of clay.

Amy Dov says, “I have always been drawn to the quality and warmth of clay. It is a methodical, intuitive and grounding process, one in which I have a visceral response to each phase while I am working. The sculptures bring to mind the decay and changes in the living world and a reminder to the quiet observation of its inherent beauty.”

Renowned photographer Marjorie Salvaterra brings a striking departure from her signature black-and-white aesthetic with ‘Sheila in Technicolor’. A vivid exploration of surrealist female narratives, the series bathes its subjects in saturated hues, presenting a fresh and bold perspective on femininity. An extension of her collection that premiered at the (miami) gallery in December, Sheila in Technicolor continues Salvaterra’s investigation into the complex roles women navigate in modern life. Inspired by her mother, Salvaterra embraces the vibrancy of life, weaving together humour, introspection, and a deep sense of generational storytelling.

The exhibition will feature an immersive presentation of ‘Sheila in Technicolor’, with one wall dedicated to warm tones and the other to cool tones, creating a dynamic visual dialogue within the space.

Ralph Pucci says, Each of these artists brings something truly special to the table, and we are thrilled to showcase their work in their hometown at RALPH PUCCI (los angeles). We look forward to sharing these extraordinary pieces with the public and continuing our commitment to pushing the boundaries of creativity.”
