Andrew Kennedy
Andrew S. Kennedy is the Co-Founder and Director of Sculpture Space NYC Ceramic Center, located in Queens, NY. Kennedy came to New York to study fine art at the Cooper Union. He later attended the Skowhegan Art Residency and worked as a sculpture fabricator for artist Richard Artschwager. Kennedy’s ceramics are inspired by an appreciation for large scale utilitarian forms. By applying clay coils as he throws each form on the potter’s wheel, Kennedy builds his structures to an impressive scale. High-temperature reduction glaze firings then reveal colors of blue celadon, coppery red, and deep black. Kennedy’s painterly approach to the clay vessel acknowledges the sublimity that comes from working with the forces of fire, clay, and its glaze chemistry, as he looks to balance aspects of roughness with refinement in each piece. Andrew joined RALPH PUCCI in 2024.
