Donald Traver has been at the forefront of New York City contemporary art since his first solo exhibition at Massimo Audiello Gallery in 1984. He played an important role in creating the vibrant 1980s East Village art scene, and his large-scale surrealist paintings won grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and in painting from the NY Foundation for the Arts. Traver runs daily operations at Pace Editions and the ambiance of this esteemed print shop affects his art. Previously he was Artistic Director of the Limelight, when the galleries and clubs of the East Village were the center of artistic activity. He teaches at NYU and paints at his Gowanus studio and in his country house in rural Pennsylvania. Much of his work, whether figurative or abstract, reflects his immersion in the countryside. He joined RALPH PUCCI in 2019.
